About the Scottish Health Care Branch
Unison Scottish Health Care Branch represents Unison members within the 4 health boards as follows:
NHS National Services Scotland
NHS Education for Scotland
Public Health Scotland
Healthcare Improvement Scotland
We currently have over 50 UNISON accredited stewards within our branch who represent members across these 4 health boards. We are a national branch and have members the length and breadth of Scotland. A full list of branch officers and stewards can be found by accessing the document in the “Stewards” section of this site. Contact details are included for members wishing to get in touch with their local steward. If you work in an area where there appears to be no dedicated steward, and require advice, then please fill in the form in the “Contact Us” section and someone will be in touch.
As a branch, we work with other trade unions in partnership with management as part of the NHS Scotland partnership agreement. However, although we work closely with other trade unions, our 1st and utmost priority is to service the best interests of all branch Unison members.
We are proud, that as a branch, we have the 4 Employee Directors elected into each of the 4 health boards where we represent as non-executive directors. Directly influencing the course that each board takes and ensuring that partnership working that involves UNISON is viewed as a priority.
Ian Cant – NSS
Lynnette Grieve – NES
Michael Craig –Public Health Scotland

Our Branch Executive Committee meet on a monthly basis to discuss and agree all aspects of local, regional and national Unison business.
Currently, Unison Scottish Health Care Branch Secretary is Tam Hiddleston, and he can be reached at shcb@btconnect.com
Our stewards are all trained and educated in their role through Regional UNISON training, and also branch specific development, and will assist and advise wherever possible where this is requested from members. Please bear in mind though that all our stewards do this on a voluntary basis and combine their UNISON role with their “day jobs”.
Our branch is always interested to hear from any member who wishes more information on becoming a steward. Please feel free to talk to your local steward or get in contact with the branch for further information. Full training and continued support will be in place for every steward.
