UNISON’s Welfare Fund
Unison is the only union that has a registered Charity, There For You, to help its members when things to don’t quite according to plan.
Susan Cook, our branch Welfare Officer, can provide advice and signposting to members and stewards who have a welfare query. UNISON There For You can help you with debt and benefits advice, help with budgeting, and in some circumstances can provide financial assistance. All advice is given in the strictest confidence. Please see the There For You website for more information, or get in touch with Susan Cook at susan.cook4@nhs.scot.
In addition to providing specialised support on a case-by-case basis, There For You provides school uniform and winter fuel grants every year to members who qualify. Keep an eye out for an email from the branch if you would like to apply for one or both of these grants.
We also send flowers and cards for certain occasions. We rely on members contacting their local steward or Welfare Branch Officer directly to inform them of the individual and the reason.
Flowers can be sent to members who have been unwell or off work for a period of 4 or more weeks.
Cards will be sent to members for marriages, births, special birthdays, retirement, and sympathy. If you know of a member who has experienced a special life event which doesn’t fit into one of these categories, please get in touch with Susan who will advise if we can arrange a card.
